Description

Can working as an engineer in the weapons industry conflict with Buddhist principles? In this Dhamma sermon, Venerable Pannakara Thero explores the Buddhist teaching of Right Livelihood (Sammā Ājīva) and invites us to reflect on the ethical consequences of our work. According to the Buddha’s teachings in the Vanijja Sutta, there are five types of trade that should be avoided by Buddhist followers, including the trade in weapons. But what does this teaching mean for someone who works in an industry that produces military aircraft or other weapons? Through the principles of kamma, compassion, and cause and effect, we explore how our actions can affect not only individuals but also families, communities, and future generations. This documentary-style narration provides additional context and explanation of the Dhamma, helping us reflect on our daily choices and the importance of earning a living without contributing to unnecessary suffering. 🙏 In this video, we reflect on: The Buddhist teaching of Right Livelihood (Sammā Ājīva) The five types of trade discouraged in the Vanijja Sutta The ethical questions surrounding weapons manufacturing How kamma relates to our intentions and actions Why compassion is more beneficial than hatred or condemnation How to make wiser and more ethical decisions in our professional lives A question for you: How should we evaluate our profession when our work may indirectly contribute to the suffering of others? Share your thoughts respectfully in the comments. May we all develop wisdom, compassion, and understanding, and choose a livelihood that contributes to peace rather than suffering. 🙏 Namo Buddhaya 🙏 Namo Dhammaya 🙏 Namo Sanghaya Documentary narration is used to provide additional context and explanation. #VenerablePannakaraThero #DhammaSermon #BuddhistTeachings #RightLivelihood #SammaAjiva #VanijjaSutta #Kamma #BuddhistWisdom #WalkForPeacefulLife
