About Video:-
truck air brakes use compressed air to push the brake shoes against the drum and slow the wheels.
but if the air pressure is lost, how can the brakes still apply? the answer lies inside the spring brake chamber.
pressing the brake pedal controls how much air pressure reaches the service brake chambers. the pushrod moves, the s-cam turns, and the brake shoes press against the drum. the compressor, air dryer, tanks and valves keep this system supplied and controlled.
there is also a powerful spring inside the spring brake chamber. air pressure keeps it compressed during normal driving. when that pressure is released, the spring applies the brakes. this is how the parking brake works, and why losing air pressure can automatically apply the spring brakes.
