Description
The sump pump was running during the storm. The motor sounded normal, the discharge pipe was vibrating—and water was even coming out outside. But the water inside the pit kept rising until it reached the basement floor.
A running sump pump does not always mean your basement is protected.
In this video, Mack explains how a sump system can keep moving water without ever getting ahead of it. You’ll see how a failing check valve can send water back into the pit, how an exterior discharge line can return pumped water toward the foundation, and why these two ordinary weaknesses can overwhelm an otherwise functioning pump.
You’ll learn:
• Why pump noise does not prove water is being removed
• How to recognize sump-pump short-cycling
• Why water may fall back into the pit after shutdown
• What a sump-pump check valve actually does
• How poor exterior discharge placement can recycle water
• Why the first sustained fall storm exposes hidden problems
• What homeowners can safely inspect before the next storm
• When water and electricity make the area unsafe
• When to call a licensed plumber or waterproofing professional
Never step into standing water near electrical equipment, outlets, cords or an electrical panel. Never reach into a sump basin while the pump is energized. If water is near electrical equipment, stay clear and contact qualified professionals.
