Description
How did Rome conquer Greece?
Rome did not begin its involvement in Greece as a conqueror.
It came as an ally. Then a liberator. Then a protector.
But with every war, every alliance, and every intervention, Rome's influence grew.
The Roman victory over Macedon at Cynoscephalae brought a promise of Greek freedom. But that promise created a strange new reality: the Greeks were free largely because Rome had decided they should be.
Then came Antiochus III, Perseus, Pydna, and finally Corinth in 146 BC.
By then, the power that had once claimed to protect Greek independence had become the dominant force in the Greek world.
But how did Rome accomplish this without simply invading and occupying all of Greece?
This documentary follows the wars, political rivalries, alliances, and turning points that transformed Rome from an outsider into the master of the Greek world.
And in one of history's greatest twists, Rome conquered Greece politically...
while Greece went on to profoundly shape Rome culturally.
