Description

#RelaxingRain #VillageCooking #KeralaVillage #TraditionalCooking In this story from GhibliFamilyStories, we spend a quiet day inside a traditional Kerala village home surrounded by lush greenery, coconut trees, banana plants, wet earth and cool monsoon air. Dark clouds cover the sky while steady rain falls outside, creating the peaceful atmosphere of a slow village afternoon. Inside the rustic kitchen, our mother begins preparing a special homemade chicken feast using simple traditional ingredients and old-fashioned cooking methods. The entire story follows the food from preparation to the final biryani, allowing every little cooking moment to unfold naturally. The day begins with the preparation of fresh chicken. The chicken pieces are carefully cleaned and seasoned with aromatic ingredients including turmeric, red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin, ginger-garlic paste, salt and homemade spices. The chicken is allowed to absorb the flavors before being cooked over the traditional wood-fire stove. While the rain continues outside, the kitchen becomes warm with the gentle glow of the fire. Onions are finely chopped and cooked slowly in butter and oil until golden and fragrant. Ginger-garlic paste is added, followed by turmeric, coriander and chilli powders, allowing the spices to bloom naturally in the hot oil. Freshly chopped tomatoes are then added to the masala. The onions, tomatoes and spices slowly cook together until they become a rich, thick and aromatic base. Cashew paste is added to give the masala a creamy texture and deeper richness, and everything is carefully mixed over the wood fire. The chicken is then added to this beautiful homemade masala and cooked slowly until the pieces are tender and completely coated with the rich gravy. Alongside the chicken preparation, the story also includes the comforting little details of a traditional village kitchen—fried onions, roasted cashews and raisins, fresh coriander leaves, butter, homemade dough rounds, traditional vessels, woven baskets, clay pots and simple ingredients arranged around the cooking area. The finished chicken becomes one of the highlights of the rainy-day feast, with beautifully cooked pieces coated in the aromatic masala and gently served from the hot cooking vessel. Then comes the layer-by-layer biryani preparation. The chicken is carefully removed from the cooking vessel, leaving behind the rich masala and gravy. Freshly cooked fluffy white rice is then added as the first layer. The rice is gently spread and leveled, leaving plenty of room for the next layers. Small pieces of butter are placed over the hot rice so that they slowly soften from the heat. Fresh coriander leaves are sprinkled across the surface, followed by crispy golden fried onions, roasted cashews and raisins. The fragrant chicken masala is then layered back over the rice, followed by more rice as the biryani slowly takes shape. 🌧️ Rain outside. 🔥 Fire inside. 🍗 Chicken slowly cooking. 🍚 Biryani layered with care. 🌿 Green Kerala nature everywhere. 🏡 A peaceful village home filled with the warmth of homemade food.
