Description
The second water heater was only three days old when water appeared on the floor again. The first tank had already been replaced, the relief valve had been changed—and now the brand-new heater appeared to be leaking too.
But the tank wasn’t the real problem.
In this video, Mack explains how excessive household pressure, thermal expansion, a failing pressure-reducing valve, and an expansion tank that is no longer working correctly can create an intermittent discharge from a water heater’s temperature-and-pressure relief valve.
You’ll learn:
• Why water may appear only after a heating cycle
• How a T&P relief valve protects the water heater
• Why replacing the valve may not solve the underlying problem
• Why one normal pressure reading can be misleading
• What an expansion tank is supposed to do
• What homeowners can safely inspect and document
• When it’s time to call a licensed plumber
Important: Never cap, plug, restrict, or tie shut a water heater’s relief valve or discharge pipe. The discharged water may be dangerously hot. Pressure, temperature, expansion equipment, gas, electrical, and venting issues should be evaluated by a qualified professional.
