Description

At 8:36 AM on August 26th, 2026, the valleys along the Nepal-Tibet border were having a completely ordinary morning. At 8:37, a piece of a mountain the size of a city block silently let go. In this video, we reconstruct the entire disaster minute by minute — from the last quiet moments before the collapse to the desperate hours after — using the seismic records, satellite images, river gauge data, and survivor accounts researchers have pieced together since. You'll see how the collapse was misread as a magnitude 4.4 earthquake by automated systems around the world, how a falling mountain transformed into a debris flow by swallowing the river itself, why one gauge recorded the river rising nine meters in thirty minutes, and what happened in the worst twenty minutes as the wall of mud moved village by village down the valley — where the difference between the living and the dead was measured in the first ten seconds of reaction. We also run the timeline that could have existed: the same morning, replayed with the warning systems scientists have been proposing for years — and show exactly where twenty-three silent minutes could have become twenty-three minutes of evacuation. Plus the eerie parallel with the 2021 Chamoli disaster in India, which ran on an almost identical clock, and was published as a warning five years before this happened again. This is part of our ongoing series breaking down the Nepal disaster: the glacier mechanics, the surviving house, the ignored warnings, and the lakes still hanging over these valleys are all on the channel. Subscribe — every week, we break down a disaster minute by minute, cause by cause, until it actually makes sense. #NepalFlood #MinuteByMinute #Himalayas
