Description
23 LAKH TREES CUT DOWN IN ARUNACHAL PRADESH?KAMALA HYDEL PROJECT!
🌳 23 lakh trees could be cut down for the Kamala Hydroelectric Project in Arunachal Pradesh. But can planting trees in another state replace a Himalayan forest?
The proposed Kamala Hydroelectric Project by NHPC raises serious questions about environmental protection, tribal rights, and sustainable development.
Under compensatory afforestation, trees may be planted in a different location when suitable land is unavailable locally. In this case, the proposed afforestation in Madhya Pradesh raises an important question: can trees planted hundreds of kilometres away compensate for the loss of a fragile Himalayan ecosystem?
The project also raises concerns about forest-dependent communities, traditional land rights, local livelihoods, and wildlife.
⚖️ Development vs Environment: Where should we draw the line?
💬 Can compensatory afforestation truly replace an ancient forest? How can we protect tribal rights while pursuing development? Share your views in the comments!
📚 A must-watch topic for UPSC aspirants studying Environment, Ecology, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), the Forest Conservation Act, and Tribal Rights.
