Description
Some of the fastest race cars ever built were only allowed to race because their makers promised to sell them to the public. These are six homologation specials — race cars that had to pretend to be road cars, and the rulebook loopholes that made it legal.
Racing rulebooks have always demanded that manufacturers prove their cars were real. Build enough road-legal versions, sell them to actual customers, and your race car can compete. Most of the time that meant hundreds of cars. Sometimes it meant barely a handful .with fuel tanks counted as luggage, road trim bolted onto a Le Mans prototype, or a homologation batch that existed almost entirely on paper.
In this video we break down six machines built around that single requirement, what the rules actually demanded, and what happened when the governing bodies closed the gap the following season. From a Peugeot that defined Group B, to a Mercedes that bent GT1 rules, to a Toyota that never really sold to the public at all.
Facts over myth . no rankings of personal taste, just the engineering, the regulations, and the paperwork.
