Description
I break down what Ford owners need to know about oil viscosity, severe duty oil recommendations, and when running thicker oil actually makes sense in an F-150 or Super Duty.
📘 FREE Ford Longevity Checklist 👉 https://fordscope.com
After GM changed the oil specification on hundreds of thousands of recalled trucks and SUVs, a lot of owners started asking whether the factory oil recommendation in their own truck should always be followed without question.
In this video, I explain what actually happened with GM's bearing failures, why thicker oil was part of their remedy, and what that does and does not mean for Ford owners.
I also look at Ford's own recommendations for normal driving, towing, heavy loads, extreme temperatures, and severe duty use. More importantly, I explain why the correct answer can change depending on the engine and how the truck is actually being used.
Thicker oil is not automatically better. The goal is to understand when there is a real mechanical or manufacturer-backed reason to change viscosity and when you're simply creating a solution for a problem that doesn't exist.
If you own a Ford truck and want it to last, this is the kind of maintenance detail worth understanding before your next oil change.
