Description

The most brutal torture scene in CASINO wasn’t created entirely in Hollywood. It was reportedly inspired by what the Chicago Outfit did to Billy McCarthy. McCarthy and Jimmy Miraglia were young criminals known as the M&M Boys. In 1962, they murdered two men connected to the Chicago Outfit without receiving permission—an act that made the organization appear weak and demanded a terrifying response. The Outfit needed to locate Miraglia, but McCarthy initially refused to reveal where his partner was hiding. According to accounts of the murder, Tony Spilotro, Charles Nicoletti and Felix “Milwaukee Phil” Alderisio subjected McCarthy to a savage interrogation. McCarthy’s head was placed inside an industrial vise. As the pressure increased, one of his eyes reportedly came out of its socket. Only then did he surrender the information his captors wanted. But cooperation did not save him. McCarthy was killed, and Miraglia was hunted down next. Their bodies were eventually discovered inside the trunk of a car, their deaths serving as a warning to anyone considering violence without the Outfit’s approval. Why did the M&M Boys murder two protected men? How did Tony Spilotro become involved in the retaliation? And how did this horrifying Chicago crime later inspire one of the most unforgettable scenes in CASINO? This is the true story of Billy McCarthy, the M&M Boys and the punishment that helped establish Tony Spilotro as one of the Chicago Outfit’s most feared enforcers. #BillyMcCarthy #TonySpilotro #ChicagoOutfit #CasinoMovie #JimmyMiraglia #MafiaHistory #OrganizedCrime #TrueCrime #StreetFiles
