Planting BILLIONS of Trees to Stop a Desert 😱

China is planting trees in the desert to fight desertification. 🌳🏜️ This is part of China’s massive Three-North Shelterbelt Program, often called the “Great Green Wall of China.” Launched in 1978, the project stretches across northern China and is planned to continue until 2050, using forests, grasslands and other vegetation to reduce wind erosion, control desertification and protect communities and farmland. The project covers 13 provincial-level regions and has already helped increase forest coverage across the project area from about 5.05% to 13.84%. China is still expanding the effort, including major desert-control projects in places such as the Taklamakan Desert. It’s one of the largest and longest-running ecological restoration projects on Earth. 🌱 Would you plant trees in a desert to stop it from spreading? #GreatGreenWall #DesertGreening #Desertification #China #Reforestation great green wall of china, china great green wall, great green wall china, china green wall, china's great green wall, three north shelterbelt program, three north shelterbelt forest program, china desert greening, planting trees in desert, planting trees to stop desertification, desertification, stop desertification, desert greening, desert greening project, greening the desert, china reforestation, china afforestation, china desert project, china turns desert green, how china is turning deserts green, how china turned the desert green, desert restoration, desert reclamation, desert control, desert trees, desert forest, green desert, taklamakan desert, china green belt, green wall china, environmental restoration, reforestation, afforestation, climate change, environmental projects, china, great green wall
