Description
Daniel prayed about seventy years and was handed four hundred ninety. Walk the seventy weeks of Daniel 9 one milestone at a time and see who the final week in verse 27 is really about.
In Daniel 9, the old prophet reads Jeremiah's seventy years, puts on sackcloth, and prays. The angel Gabriel answers at the hour of the evening sacrifice, in a city with no temple, and gives him "seventy weeks." This video follows that timeline step by step: the rare Hebrew word chathak ("determined," literally "cut out"), shavua ("a unit of seven"), the day-for-a-year principle from Numbers 14 and Ezekiel 4, and why 2 Chronicles 36 ties the exile to seventy missed sabbath years.
You will see the four Persian decrees side by side (Cyrus, Darius, Artaxerxes in Ezra 7, Artaxerxes in Nehemiah 2), why many start the count in 457 BC, how 483 years reach the baptism of Jesus in Luke 3, what "Messiah" (mashiach, anointed) and "cut off" (karath) mean, and how "confirm the covenant with many" echoes the Last Supper. We also give the futurist "gap theory" its strongest case, from Hippolytus to Sir Robert Anderson, with Matthew 24:15 and the nearest-antecedent argument, and answer it from the text, including Luke 21:20 and Josephus.
The center of the final week is the Messiah, not a peace treaty, and the dates are shown honestly, including where scholars still disagree.
📖 KEY VERSE
"Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city" — Daniel 9:24
