Description
The universe is so vast that the numbers stop making sense long before you reach the end. In this video we go from our own solar system to the edge of the observable universe, step by step, using comparisons that make the scale real.
We cover how long Voyager 1 has been traveling and where it sits today, why the nearest star is so much farther than most people imagine, what the Milky Way actually looks like and why we have never photographed it from the outside, why Andromeda is the most distant thing you can see with your naked eye and what is going to happen when it collides with us in 4.5 billion years, what the James Webb Space Telescope found in a patch of sky the size of a grain of sand, and what lies beyond the edge of the observable universe.
The observable universe is 93 billion light-years across and contains up to 2 trillion galaxies. The largest galaxy we know of is 40 times bigger than our own. And all of that may be just a tiny fraction of what actually exists.
