Description
What happened when the ice dam broke? The 48-hour mega flood that carved Washington State. In the 1920s, geologist J. Harlen Bretz said eastern Washington was carved by catastrophic floods — not slow erosion. No one believed him for decades. Then scientists found the source: Glacial Lake Missoula, a giant prehistoric lake in northern Idaho holding 2,000 cubic kilometers of water behind an ice dam on the Clark Fork River. When that dam failed, the Missoula Floods ripped across the Channeled Scablands, creating Dry Falls, Grand Coulee, and Palouse Falls — some of the most dramatic geology landscapes in North America. This is the story of how one impossible flood rewrote geology history. Perfect for fans of geology, ice age mysteries, natural disasters, and documentary shorts. Subscribe to No Stone Unturned for more ancient history, geological mysteries, and lost landscapes explained in under 60 seconds.
