Description

Discover the best cities to retire in Romania — ranked by real data on rent, healthcare, airports, and expat life. If you're thinking about retiring in Romania in 2026 or 2027, this video breaks down the ten cities where a Western pension goes furthest without sacrificing quality of life. From affordable retirement in Europe's most underrated EU country to the cost of living in Romania that still lets you see a private doctor for $30, we cover it all. We scored each city on housing cost, usable healthcare, infrastructure, and English-speaking community. The ranking includes Brașov, Timișoara, Oradea, Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, and Iași — plus three cities most channels never mention. You'll learn where to find cheap rent in Romania, which cities have real private hospitals, and where the expat life in Romania is actually year-round. If you're comparing cheap places to retire in Eastern Europe, Romania stands out for its combination of low rent prices, modern airports, and fast internet. Living in Brașov or living in Timișoara costs a fraction of what you'd pay in Portugal or Spain, with healthcare in Romania that keeps improving every year. This is a practical Romania retirement guide built for people who want to move, not just dream about it. Moving to Romania starts with picking the right city, and here I will explain why. See a private doctor for $30? And fly home without an ordeal from modern airports? However… Most people look at the WRONG cities there. Because there is also the version of Romania with broken hospitals, and streets full of potholes. So you must choose carefully to go to the right places. I’ve been in Romania (SHOW ME IN ROMANIA AND INFORM I AM NOT AN AI) – differently from other channels, I don't rank cities from a basement in Little Rock, Arkansas. So today I'm counting down the ten Romanian cities where a Western retiree can get the best combination of low living costs and high quality of life. The capital, Bucharest, doesn't win. It doesn't even make the podium. And number one? It's the city Romanians themselves name when you ask where they would retire. Let's count down from number ten, but first... The Criteria. Here's exactly how I scored them. Four factors. Housing cost for renters: 30% of the score. Asking rents for a furnished apartment you would actually live in. Usable healthcare: another 30%. Romania has two tiers. Public hospitals handle the emergencies — trauma, stroke, heart attack. Private networks handle routine care. A city needs both doors working to score well. Infrastructure: 25%. Mostly airports, because in this country a 400-kilometer drive — call it 250 miles — can eat your whole day. And the English-speaking community: 15%. It decides whether daily life is workable or just lonely.
