Today at Dad's Diner, I put canned Manwich sauce head-to-head against a scratch-built sloppy joe — fresh onion, red and yellow bell pepper, jalapeño, and a sauce built instead of poured. The canned version is quick and tomato-forward. The scratch version takes a few extra minutes and delivers real depth and complexity.
