Description

Australian Honey Investigation: What’s Really in the Jar? That bottle of honey on the supermarket shelf might look Australian. But how much of the honey inside actually comes from Australia? In this investigation, we look at honey sold through Woolworths, Coles, Aldi and independent supermarkets — including Capilano, Cloverdale and other familiar names — and follow the fine print most shoppers probably never read. One Woolworths honey is labelled “packed in Australia from less than 10% Australian ingredients.” Meanwhile, another brand sold by the same company is marketed as 100% Australian honey. So what does the label actually tell you? We investigate: ✅ what “less than 10% Australian ingredients” really means ✅ why “packed in Australia” does NOT mean Australian honey ✅ the history of imported honey blends ✅ what happened when supermarket honey was tested in 2018 ✅ why different testing methods can produce different results ✅ what the latest government survey found ✅ how imported honey affects price ✅ what Australian beekeepers say ✅ why “local” isn't automatic proof of origin ✅ and the simple shelf check to use before buying honey. Importantly, this investigation does NOT claim that Cloverdale, Capilano or other current products shown are “fake honey.” In 2018, some imported and blended honeys were flagged by one testing method while all samples passed Australia's official testing. The ACCC later closed its investigation because of uncertainty around the alternative testing method. More recent government testing again produced different results depending on the method used, and the brands involved were not publicly named. So instead of guessing which jar is “safe,” this report shows you what can actually be verified. 📘 THE SMARTER SHOPPER’S GUIDE — VERSION 2 Want a practical system for checking supermarket products before you buy?
