Description

Everyone remembers Falling Down as the story of a man who hits breaking point, snaps, and then fights back. However, the word "snapped" or "nervous breakdown" is never spoken in the film. Not by the police, his wife, or the man himself. What the film tells you, and it waits until the last act to do it, is that William Foster was fired from a defence plant a month before any of this starts, and told nobody. In 1990, aerospace manufacturing in Los Angeles County employed around 127,000 people. Within a few years that workforce had halved. Then, in 1993, the Pentagon urged the remaining contractors to merge. 51 major firms consolidated into five. What happened after that is nothing short of scandalous. D-Fens didn't snap. He was conned. And so were you. This is part three of a loose trilogy on what societies blame when individuals turn violent.) #FallingDown #MichaelDouglas #military #JoelSchumacher #FilmEssay #VideoEssay #CultFilm #Moviedrome #90sMovies #FilmAnalysis #DFens
