From the oldest human skulls ever found outside Africa to an altar inscription nobody can read, these nine discoveries keep forcing archaeologists to rewrite their dates. Several of them still have no answer at all. In this documentary, we count down nine real archaeological discoveries from the country of Georgia in the Caucasus, each one backed by named researchers and published evidence. We start at the Katskhi Pillar, where hermits lived on top of a 130-foot limestone column, and the first date for the ruins turned out to be wrong by centuries. Then we explore Uplistsikhe, an entire town carved into solid rock whose true purpose scholars still argue over after almost 150 years of study. High in the Javakheti mountains, the cyclopean fortresses of Abuli and Shaori were built from giant basalt blocks without mortar, and no archaeologist has ever excavated them. In ancient Colchis, the gold tombs of Vani and the sheepskin gold-panning of Svaneti may explain the real origin of Jason and the Golden Fleece. At the Ananauri Kurgan, a Bronze Age chief was buried with wooden wagons, gold, and wild berries still red after 4,300 years, preserved in honey. The countdown continues with the Grakliani inscription, a mysterious script on a temple altar whose date keeps moving, and Gadachrili Gora, where 8,000-year-old jars hold the world's oldest evidence of grape wine. The Dzudzuana Cave threads, spun and dyed more than 30,000 years ago, sparked a scientific dispute that played out in the journal Science. Number one is Dmanisi, where 1.8-million-year-old skulls changed where the human story begins outside Africa, including a toothless man who may have survived because others cared for him. Want to go deeper than a single video allows? The Atlas of Impossible Places covers 48 ancient sites where the physical evidence still does not fully match the official explanation, with the mainstream case and the alternative case laid out side by side. The link is at the top of this description and in the pinned comment.
