Why Hasidic Families Have 8 to 10 Children

Why do Hasidic families often have eight to ten children when the average American family has fewer than two? This video works through the answer from the inside out: the Torah's first commandment to be fruitful and multiply, the way the Holocaust shaped the postwar rebuilding of Hasidic communities, the Hasidic teaching that each child is a soul with a purpose, and the gemachs and extended family networks that make large households workable. It also gives space to the women who live this daily, including those who describe the joy and those who describe the strain. You will leave with a clearer picture of the theology, the history, and the economics behind the choice, and an understanding of how a community that doubles roughly every decade is growing.
