Description

My name is Isaac Miller. I am Amish, and I have worked iron in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania for thirty-one years. You bought forty dollars of traps last fall. You caught two mice in October and called it handled. Now it is February and the wall is running footraces at two in the morning. Mice are not a population problem. They are a doorway problem. Every one you kill inside is replaced from outside within days. The door is seventeen millimeters. A grown mouse flattens his skull and passes a quarter inch. Wood and foam are food to him. His teeth grow close to a millimeter every three days, and that growth needs a fixed edge to press against. Loose-wadded copper gives him none. It rolls, it shifts, it cuts. He leaves and finds a softer door. Three dollars of copper, six dollars of caulk, a dime and one Saturday. I call it the Copper Stitch. A pest contract runs fifty dollars a visit. Over ten years that is two thousand dollars against nine. In this video I show you the dime walk, the eight to twelve holes an average house gives up, why copper beats steel wool, how loose to wad it, the patch for fist-sized pipe gaps, the eighteen-dollar garage door seal, and the vinegar wipe that erases their scent map. I also tell you where it falls short. This keeps mice out. It does nothing about the ones already in. WHAT YOU WILL NEED Pure copper scouring pads, three for about three dollars Exterior caulk, about six dollars a tube Quarter-inch galvanized hardware cloth, about twelve dollars for ten feet Rodent-rated garage door bottom seal, eighteen dollars Louvered dryer vent pest cover, about eight dollars A dime, a flashlight and a flat-blade screwdriver A WORD OF CAUTION Run snap traps inside for a week before you seal, until you go three straight nights with nothing, or you will lock the last few in your walls. Never pack brick weep holes solid. Never wad a dryer vent, it takes a proper louvered cover, because a blocked vent is a genuine fire hazard. Subscribe if you want the old ways written down plain. I put up the fixes you do once instead of paying for every quarter. #amish #mice #rodentproofing #pestcontrol #coppermesh #homestead #diyhomerepair #oldways
