📘 Get the guide → The exact forms, phone scripts, and deadlines Social Security, Medicare, your bank & the IRS never explain in plain English: https://www.franklinlaw.shop
On October 14 you get a number. In January you find out what actually reaches your bank account. Three things reach in between — and none of them is announced alongside the raise.
The money coming in gets a headline. The money going out arrives in separate envelopes, from separate agencies, on separate dates, written so you would never lay them side by side. This is what the three letters actually say.
🔹 1. The rule that can take half your check. New overpayment notices default to 50% withholding of your monthly benefit (10% for SSI). The letter is the start of a conversation: reconsideration within about 60 days, a waiver with no deadline, or a negotiated lower repayment rate — and filing usually pauses collection. Answer it the week it arrives.
🔹 2. Read the December notice properly. Three lines matter: your benefit before deductions, your Medicare deduction, and what you are actually paid. Put it next to last year's and account for every line that changed.
🔹 3. What is not happening right now. Involuntary federal student-loan collections, including Social Security offsets, are paused — no restart date announced. A pause is not a cancellation. If you have a defaulted federal loan, use the pause.
💡 Nothing here is secret. It is all disclosed — in three separate envelopes. The only thing this video asks is that you put them on the table together.
