Description
What really separates a winner from an average person? Most of us assume it comes down to talent, luck, or a better starting point, but Stoic philosophy points somewhere very different. In this video, we explore the Stoic mindset behind lasting success and why so many capable people never move beyond average.
We begin with Zeno of Citium, the founder of Stoicism, who lost his entire fortune in a shipwreck and turned that disaster into a new life devoted to philosophy. From there we meet Cleanthes, the slow and unglamorous student nicknamed “the Donkey,” who went on to carry the Stoic school for roughly three decades. Along the way we look at Epictetus on how our judgments, not events, shape our suffering, Seneca on the shortness of life and the way we waste our time, and the Stoic idea of the prokopton, the person who measures progress against their own past instead of other people.
If you’ve ever quit when the work became slow, felt stuck, or compared yourself to everyone around you, this video offers a calmer and more practical way to think about success, discipline, resilience, and personal growth. These are ancient ideas, but they apply directly to modern life.
I hope it gives you something worth thinking about. If it does, subscribe to the channel for more Stoic wisdom, and tell me in the comments: which shipwreck in your own life ended up being the turning point?
