Description
A hungry apostle, a sheet full of animals, and a voice from heaven saying "kill, and eat." Peter refused three times. So did God make pork clean, or was that vision about something else?
In this video we put the question on trial, one exhibit at a time, using the King James Bible. Exhibit one: the line between clean and unclean animals appears in Genesis 7, with Noah, long before Moses or Israel. Leviticus 11 names the swine as unclean and gives holiness, not hygiene, as the reason, and Isaiah 66 still mentions it at the coming of the Lord.
Exhibit two: Mark 7. Why the King James reads "purging all meats" while the ESV and NIV add "Thus he declared all foods clean," what the Greek word koinos (common) means, and why Matthew 15:20 closes the same conversation with unwashed hands. Exhibit three: the Maccabean martyr Eleazar, who died at ninety rather than eat pork, and Peter's own explanation of his vision in Acts 10:28.
Then the strongest case on the other side: the Greek participle katharizon, Papias on Mark and Peter, the Jerusalem council in Acts 15, Romans 14:14, 1 Timothy 4:4, and Genesis 9:3. Each one gets a fair hearing and an answer from the text, followed by an honest verdict and what remains open.
The central finding: the passages usually quoted to make pork clean are about unwashed hands, Gentile people, and false teachers, and none of them clearly repeals Leviticus 11.
📖 KEY VERSE
