Description

It seems to have been deliberately buried. Another day in the yard!!!! In April 1968, 250 people walked out of the New York premiere of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Within a week Stanley Kubrick had cut it down, and the scenes he took out have never been shown since. Thirty years later he had his own negatives driven to an industrial waste lot and burned. Then, in 2010, somebody in a Toronto cinema asked Douglas Trumbull one question. So every lost footage legend goes through the same three questions. Was it filmed? Did anyone see it? Does it still exist? King Kong's spider pit. London After Midnight. The Wizard of Oz "hanging munchkin". The ghost in Three Men and a Baby. The Independence Day deleted scene 343 of you remember. And the one where Kubrick faked the Moon landing. Only one passes all three. Also in this one: why nitrate film keeps burning underwater, the front-projection trick that made a leopard's eyes glow (same physics as the mirrors Apollo left on the Moon), why a 275-million-year-old salt bed is the safest place on Earth for a negative, and the vinegar clock that's still ticking on it. Verdict: LOCKED.
