Description
A farm kid growing up in 1940s America could drive a tractor by age ten, harness a mule by age eight, and read a coming storm by age six — from the color of the sky and the way the cattle were moving. He learned those things because his family's survival depended on them.
In this video, Eli Holloway shares twenty-five forgotten skills that every nineteen-forties farm kid knew before high school — from reading soil before planting, to setting a rabbit snare, to darning a sock, to making cornbread without a recipe. These weren't extra-curriculars. They were the foundation that farm families built their survival on, passed hand to hand, season to season. Almost none of them are being taught anymore.
Every one of these skills was learned without a manual, without a class, and without anything that couldn't be found on a working American farm in 1945.
