Description
Ever look at a rocket on the news and just... assume it appeared? Like it grew out of the Texas sand overnight, fully formed and shiny, and somebody walked up and pushed a big red button. Turns out the hardest part of running a rocket company has almost nothing to do with space — and almost everything to do with having a big enough kitchen.
In this episode we turn rockets into cakes. You'll find out why SpaceX's original beach-shack bakery in Boca Chica physically cannot get any bigger, why you can't put a 30-foot-wide cake in a truck, why water is the only road wide enough, and why a half-empty NASA factory in eastern New Orleans — the place that built the Saturn V's bottom end and the Shuttle's big orange tank — is almost insultingly perfect for the job. By the end you'll understand the real reason for Starbase 2, including the one your grandmother would have given you about eggs and baskets.
