- A January evening, twenty to eight. Ice on the lines, the whole street goes dark at once, the furnace stops, and your phone says eighteen percent. Twenty minutes later, someone knocks on your front door, and you can't see who it is. You'll learn the ten-minute card you write in pencil tonight, which room to light (and why it matters), how to make an eighteen-percent phone last until morning, the battery sitting in your driveway (and the carbon-monoxide rule you never break), the paper list, the radio, the cash, the two people who check on you, the walk to the sidewalk to see your house the way a stranger does, and the words you say through a closed door. ❗ Everything here is public, legal, and about protecting yourself and your home. #winterstorm #poweroutage #blackout #seniorsafety #livealone #emergencyprep #homesecurity #beprepared
