Description
Funded by Europe. Built by Korea. Sued by France.
Czechia is making one of the biggest industrial investments in its modern history with the Dukovany nuclear expansion. But instead of choosing nuclear giants like France or the United States, Czechia chose South Korea’s KHNP to build two new APR1000 nuclear reactors.
So why did Czechia choose South Korea for this massive nuclear project?
In this video, we explore the Dukovany nuclear expansion, the APR1000 reactor, South Korea’s nuclear engineering experience, advanced passive safety systems, the massive 330-tonne reactor pressure vessel, and the incredible challenge of transporting huge nuclear components into a landlocked European country.
We’ll also look at South Korea’s Barakah nuclear project in the UAE, the role of Czech industry, the massive construction work at Dukovany, and how waste heat could eventually help heat the city of Brno.
With a project worth around $19 billion, Czechia is making a huge bet on South Korean nuclear engineering — and the result could reshape the country’s energy future.
