Description

This is the annual traditional festival of the Urhobo people of Delta State, Nigeria. Every year, across Delta State, sons of the soil return home. At night, young men gather with cutlasses and clash iron against iron, bringing out real sparks of fire in the dark. This is not a fight. It is a display of bravery, strength and manhood. It is how a warrior shows he can defend his land and how the community cleanses evil spirits for the new year. Performed by trained community members. DISCLAIMER: This video shows a traditional annual cultural festival of the Urhobo people of Delta State, Nigeria.
