Description
How India’s Double-Stack Freight Train Carries So Much Cargo! 😱📦 | #Shorts
---
Did you know that Indian Railways has operated a massive 1.3-kilometer-long double-stack container train carrying 360 TEUs in a single journey? 🤯🚆🇮🇳
On August 21, 2026, Indian Railways operated its first double-stack long-haul container train on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), from Jawaharlal Nehru Port near Mumbai to Varnama in Gujarat's Vadodara division.
The train covered approximately 422 kilometers, carrying 360 TEUs of container capacity, with a combined cargo tonnage of around 3,922 tonnes! 📦🔥
But what makes this train special? Its double-stack system allows containers to be carried one above another, while two container train rakes were coupled together to create one long-haul formation.
This innovative approach can help move more cargo in a single train movement, improve freight efficiency, and reduce the number of separate train movements needed for the same cargo volume.
The Western Dedicated Freight Corridor is helping transform India's freight transportation network through advanced infrastructure and more efficient cargo operations. 🚆⚙️
From passenger trains to giant freight operations, Indian Railways continues to expand its transportation capabilities!
