A Friar, Two Popes, and Two Prophecies

In 1842, a friar famous for counseling cardinals and being received by two popes sat down with a young priest who had no church, no order, and nothing but a conviction that God wanted him with the poorest boys in Turin. He told him he would found a religious order. Seventeen years later, the Salesians existed exactly as he'd said. This is the story of Venerable Bernardo Maria Clausi: the barber-turned-friar known as "il monaco santo," who prophesied Don Bosco's future, and then, weeks before his own death, prophesied his own. I pulled this together from Italian magazine archives, an official 1979 biography from his order, and direct correspondence with the shrine in Paola where he's buried.
