Original 2D space animation by Orbitimbre. Cosmic challenges, planet stories, and surprising endings. Join the Orbitimbre crew for custom emoji and loyalty badges: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtPoouzahVkQOs2gA206XRw/join Earth and Jupiter yell at the Sun to stop blowing his wind on them, so he sulks and stops. The invisible bubble his wind blows around the whole solar system shrinks, and cosmic rays from exploding stars pour in. Then a tiny voice from outside the bubble asks for help... Science notes: Real: the solar wind blows a giant bubble around all the planets, the heliosphere, and NASA says it absorbs about three quarters of the galactic cosmic rays that would otherwise get into the solar system. Cosmic rays are atomic nuclei moving at nearly the speed of light; most are probably sped up by the blast waves of exploding stars (supernova remnants, NASA). When the Sun is quiet (solar minimum) the heliosphere shrinks and more cosmic rays get in (NASA). Voyager 1 crossed the edge of the bubble, the heliopause, on 25 August 2012, about 122 times farther from the Sun than Earth, and Voyager 2 followed in 2018; Voyager 1 is now more than 25 billion km away and still sends data home (NASA/JPL). Exaggerated for fun: the Sun never stops blowing, and the bubble does not shrink in seconds or vanish (it breathes over years with the roughly 11-year solar cycle); planets are not hurt by cosmic rays (they matter for astronauts and electronics, and on Earth our magnetic field and atmosphere add more protection); the bubble is not a wall anyone can knock on; Voyager cannot turn back; sizes, distances and the bubble's shape are not to scale; and planets don't talk.
