Description

Go start a load in your dryer right now, then walk out to the wall where the vent comes out and hold your hand in front of that little flap. If the flap barely lifts, or the air coming out is weak and cool instead of strong and warm, your dryer is choking, and it is about to cost you either a two hundred dollar service call or an eight hundred dollar dryer you do not need. I spent forty five years as a carpenter and a handyman, running crews and writing the estimates myself, and I have pulled more dryers away from more laundry room walls than I can count. The part that usually gets blamed is called a thermal fuse. On most Whirlpool and Kenmore machines it runs about five to twelve dollars, and it takes about ten minutes to swap. But here is the part nobody tells you. That fuse did not fail on its own. It blew because something else was choking the airflow first, and if you do not find that something else, the new fuse blows too. What we go through: The two minute test that tells you in your own driveway whether you have a clogged vent or a dead part Why the heat and the drum run on two separate circuits, and why your dryer can tumble along sounding perfectly healthy while blowing room temperature air The five step vent cleaning job, start to finish, for about thirty three dollars The one spot almost everybody skips, and it is the single most common blockage in the entire run Why your lint screen can look clean to the eye and still be sealing your dryer shut The exact line between what is your job and what belongs to a man who is comfortable with two hundred forty volt wiring Why a gas dryer that will not heat right is never a do it yourself job Said plainly on safety: unplug the dryer before you touch anything behind it, the cord, not the breaker. Never run a dryer while you are asleep or away from the house. The National Fire Protection Association counted about fourteen thousand six hundred home dryer fires a year, with failure to clean sitting at the top of the list of causes. The honest limit, said out loud: a clean vent will not fix a broken belt, a dead door switch, or a bad igniter on a gas machine. This fix is for the choke. It is not for every reason a dryer can quit on you. So why does nobody hand you the vent brush before they hand you the bill? There was no secret meeting about it. Most shops price out of a flat rate book, and there is no line in that book for pulling a machine out and brushing a duct. The part pays. The visit pays. The reason behind the whole failure pays nothing at all. He is not a crook. He fixed exactly what you called him about. Tell me in the comments what a dryer repair cost you before you knew this, the actual number, and what part of the country you are in, because I promise you it is not the same in Ohio as it is in California. I read every one. And until next time, keep your own tools sharp, learn one repair at a time, and remember that the folks who built this country with their hands knew things we are only just starting to remember. #DryerRepair #ThermalFuse #DIYHomeRepair #HomeMaintenance #ApplianceRepair #DryerNotHeating #HandymanTips #DryerVentCleaning #FixItYourself #SaveMoneyAtHome #HomeRepairTips #DIYRepair #HomeownerHacks #OldHandyman #ApplianceMaintenance
