Description

Most doors don’t fail because the lock breaks. They fail because the frame, screws, hinges, or strike plate give way first. This video breaks down ten inexpensive ways to make a door harder to force open, from wide-angle peepholes and rubber wedges to reinforced strike plates, longer screws, sliding-door dowels, and nighttime barricade bars. The biggest upgrades are surprisingly cheap. Replacing short factory screws with three-inch screws can anchor the strike plate and hinges into the wall framing instead of soft trim wood. And when you’re home at night, a properly used floor brace or barricade can buy something even more valuable than stronger hardware: time. The goal isn’t confrontation. It’s keeping the door closed long enough to get behind it, call for help, and avoid a face-to-face encounter.
