Archeologists Investigate New Discoveries About The Roman Cavalry

For centuries, historians focused on the famous foot soldiers of the Roman legions, but Rome’s true secret weapon on the frontier was its elite cavalry. Stretching along Hadrian’s Wall, these auxiliary horsemen enforced imperial power and controlled the wild northern tribes. In this documentary, archaeologists, historians, and modern reenactors combine cutting-edge excavations at Vindolanda and Chesters with experimental archaeology. Watch as a team of 30 riders attempts to restage a terrifying ancient Roman cavalry tournament for the first time in 1,600 years, testing authentic armor, stirrupless saddles, and deadly battle formations.
