I built a hidden log cabin deep in the forest — round timber walls, a proper modern roof, two lamps burning at the entrance, and everything inside made by hand. The logs went up the way they always do — notched, stacked, and fitted tight at every corner. But the roof I did properly: modern roofing material laid over a solid timber frame, because a cabin that leaks in March isn't worth the work it took to build. Two oil lamps hung at the entrance on either side of the door — not for decoration, but because arriving at a lit cabin after a long day in the forest is a different thing entirely from arriving at a dark one. Inside I built all the furniture from wood on site, shaped to fit the space and the life I was planning to live in it. Hidden enough that the forest closes around it.
