Everyone in the house was asleep. Suddenly, Mahi got up, opened the door, and started to step outside. Mahi looked terrible; her hair was disheveled, and she had dark circles under her eyes. However, she bumped into a flower pot, which woke Sujata Ji up. Sujata Ji (55) [Loudly]: Oh, who is it? Who’s there? Is there a thief in the house? Narration: Sujata Ji came into the hall, shouting. Mahi was frightened when she heard Sujata Ji's voice. Mahi (24) [To herself, fearfully]: Oh God, Ma-ji has woken up. I need to get out of here quickly. Narration: Mahi quickly slipped out of the house. Sujata Ji (55) [Stepping outside and shouting]: Hey, someone is running away! Catch them—there’s someone out there! Narration: Why is Mahi running away from her in-laws' home? What exactly happened to her that forced her to flee? To understand this, we need to go back a bit in the story. (Flashback starts) Narration: Mahi wakes up early and cleans the entire house. After performing prayers in the home shrine, she sets out a delicious breakfast for everyone on the dining table. Sunita Ji (45) [Smiling]: My dear child, you do so much work. Waking up early to clean the house, then prayers, and then this tasty breakfast... You don't even let me step foot in the kitchen. Mahesh Ji (50) [Affectionately]: Oh Sunita, we are truly blessed to have such a sensible and virtuous daughter. Mahi (24) [Smiling]: Oh Dad, you're too much! I'm just doing my job. Narration: It was the afternoon of the next day. Mahi was sitting in her bedroom, working on her laptop. Mahi (24) [Smiling, to herself]: Wow, this freelance job is really great. In the afternoon, once the household chores are done, I can easily get this work done. It earns me some money and gives Dad a bit of support, too. Narration: Just then, Mahi's elder sister arrived; she had just returned from her in-laws' home. Arohi (28) [Smiling]: Wow, little sis, that's great! Mom and Dad never tire of praising you on the phone. So, tell me, how is this freelance job of yours going? Mahi (24) [Smiling]: Oh Didi, everything is going perfectly. I'm balancing home and work really well. Everything... Narration: A few days later, it was Saturday. The whole family was in the living room. Just then, Mahi walked in. Mahi (24) [Seriously]: Mom, Dad, tomorrow is Sunday, and you both know... Sunday is my day off; I don't do any work then. Tomorrow, I won't lift a finger for any household chores; instead, I’ll go to the mall with my friends and have a blast. Sunita Ji (45) [Laughing]: Oh yes, my queen! You work like a machine all week long. You deserve a rest for at least one day, don't you? I’ll handle all the Sunday chores myself. Mahesh Ji (50) [Affectionately]: Absolutely, beta. You aren't the housemaid, after all—you shouldn't have to work seven days a week. Mahi (24) [Happily]: Thank you, Mom; thank you, Dad... Narration: Mahi goes to her room and calls her friends. Mahi (24) [Smiling]: Hey girls, get ready for tomorrow! We’re meeting at the mall—movies, shopping, and loads of fun. Narration: The next day was Sunday. Mahi woke up at 11 AM. Her favorite breakfast was ready on the dining table. After eating, she headed to the mall with her friends. She had a wonderful time with them and later enjoyed a delicious meal at a restaurant. Mahi (24) [Smiling]: Honestly, girls, I feel like life is at its best on Sundays. I wait for this day all week long. Riya (20) [Smiling]: So true. We girls hardly ever get a break from work during the week. Mahi (24) [Loudly]: And you know, my family is amazing. They don't even let me lift a glass of water on Sundays. I feel like a total queen on Sundays. Neha (20) [laughing]: Alright, Your Highness, but tell me this—once you get married, will this 'Sunday rule' of yours still apply? Mahi (24) [smiling]: Oh, absolutely—one hundred percent. I’m not going to turn into some old-fashioned daughter-in-law. If I’m handling the housework and my job all week long, surely they’ll grant me a holiday on Sundays? In-laws these days aren't *that* grumpy. (Scene change) Narration: It was morning. Everyone in the house was in a mad rush.
