Description

I built a complete bushcraft clay shelter alone in the forest for free — mud walls, hay roof, a fire pit outside, and everything inside made by hand. Every material came from the land around me. I mixed clay, sticks, and straw into walls thick enough to hold shape and hold heat — the oldest building method there is, and still one of the best for a forest shelter. The roof went on in packed hay, layered over a timber frame for insulation and waterproofing. Around the outside I built a wooden fence to close off the space, and a stone fire pit for cooking and warmth when the walls weren't enough on their own. Inside: a sleeping platform and furniture built from whatever wood the forest gave me. Zero budget, natural materials, and a shelter that's been keeping people warm for thousands of years.
