Description
Submerged Arc Welding: Why Does This Welding Produce Almost No Visible Sparks? 😱🔥 | #Shorts
Have you ever seen a welding process where the bright arc is almost completely hidden? 😱🔥
This is called Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)—an industrial welding technique where the welding arc remains beneath a thick layer of granular flux. As the machine operates, a continuous electrode wire automatically feeds into the joint, melting the metal and creating the weld. ⚙️🔥
The flux helps protect the molten weld from atmospheric contamination and also reduces the visible arc, sparks and fumes compared with some other welding methods. This allows SAW to produce deep and consistent welds at high production rates. 🤯
However, this process isn't ideal for thin metal because it generates significant heat. That's why it is commonly used for heavy industrial fabrication, including shipbuilding, large steel structures and other major welded components. 🚢🏗️
So the arc isn't actually gone… it's simply hidden underneath the flux! 👀🔥
