Description

Thanks for watching. If this brought back a memory or taught you something Hollywood never would, subscribe and share it with someone who needs to hear the truth about the real American frontier. Pregnant, Exhausted, and Erased: The Wagon Train Truths Hollywood Never Put on Screen The covered wagon trail you know from television is clean, quiet, and comfortable. The one the women actually walked was nothing like it. In this documentary we count down twenty documented truths about marriage, intimacy, pregnancy, and survival on the Oregon and California trails. Each one is drawn from the diaries and letters of the women who lived it. You will follow a mother of seven who kept a diary across two thousand miles. You will also meet a missionary bride who crossed the Rockies on horseback, and a young trader's wife whose journal said what others would not. Along the way we look at what life inside a single wagon really meant, and what the law said about a wife's body. We also ask why the women themselves left so much unwritten. Stay to the end, because the final entry changes how you read every diary that came before it. The science behind this story is as revealing as the history. We look at what nineteenth century medicine understood about pregnancy, childbirth, and recovery, and at what it badly misunderstood. You will learn how two physicians in the eighteen forties, working an ocean apart, began to uncover why new mothers were dying days after delivery. Most of their colleagues refused to listen. We explore the plant remedies women passed to one another, and what modern toxicology says about them. Demographic research reveals how American family size changed across the century, and what that says about decisions women made in private. Finally, we look at a well-studied quirk of human biology that helps explain why so much of daily trail life never reached the page. Every claim is anchored to published research and primary records.
