Description

For centuries, the Seminole people have carried one of the most fascinating histories in Native America. But who were their ancestors really? The truth reveals an extraordinary story of ancient Indigenous roots, migration, resistance, and survival that goes far beyond what many people have been taught. Long before the modern Seminole nations emerged, diverse Native American communities lived throughout the southeastern United States. Over time, Indigenous peoples from Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and surrounding regions contributed to the development of a distinct Seminole identity. During the 1700s and 1800s, Muscogee Creek and other Indigenous communities established new settlements in Florida. Their history also became connected with the Black Seminoles, people of African descent who formed important alliances and communities alongside them. But the story did not end there. As the United States expanded, the Seminoles faced devastating wars, forced removal, and attempts to take their homelands. While many were relocated to Indian Territory, others resisted and maintained their communities in Florida. In this documentary, we explore the hidden origins of the Seminole people, their ancestral connections, the Seminole Wars, the Black Seminoles, and the remarkable history behind one of America's most enduring Indigenous nations. 💬 What surprised you most about Seminole history?
