Description
What if the power went out and all you had were a few candles and an empty food can?
I turned an ordinary chili can into a simple emergency stove using inexpensive candles—and it brought my chili to a boil in about 7 minutes! During the test, the stove reached 342°F, and I actually discovered that 12 candles produced more heat than I needed.
In this video, I'll show you exactly how I made it, how well it worked, and what I would do differently next time. My recommendation after this experiment would be to try 5 or 6 candles instead of 12 for a more controlled flame and potentially longer burn time.
This was an experiment and demonstration using open flames. Always use adequate ventilation, keep the stove on a nonflammable surface away from combustible materials, never leave it unattended, and keep appropriate fire-safety equipment nearby.
