Description

Original video credit: (ig) @wtoyscollection Long before affordable digital displays existed, kids played arcade games built entirely on clever mechanical engineering. Tomy's 1980s Space Turbo creates its 3D cockpit flight run without a single video screen. An internal light bulb shines through a motorized, rotating film drum, projecting a moving light-tunnel directly onto the curved visor screen. Steering the joystick physically moves a ship silhouette across the display to dodge oncoming obstacles. Shifting the left throttle lever cranks up the motor speed, spinning the drum faster to test player reflexes in high gear.
