Description

Hurricane Isaias slammed into Florida’s Panhandle near Destin on October 9, 2026, bringing destructive winds, dangerous storm surge, and extreme rainfall. By Monday, October 12, electricity restoration was progressing rapidly, but communities around Pensacola were still facing a critical problem: safe drinking water. At the height of the storm, nearly 900,000 homes and businesses across Florida, Alabama, and Georgia lost power. Floodwaters submerged streets in Fort Walton Beach, rainfall exceeded 12 inches at one Florida weather station, and wind gusts reached 116 mph near Santa Rosa Sound. Officials had reported at least four deaths by Sunday, including two in Florida’s Escambia County and two in Alabama. Utility crews are working to restore electricity, while emergency teams clear fallen trees and damaged roads. However, the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority’s boil water notice remains in effect for all its customers, with officials expecting it to be lifted in stages. Flood risks also remain as rivers are monitored and debris removal gets underway. In this video, we examine Isaias’s destructive flooding and winds, the rapid power restoration effort, the drinking water warning affecting Pensacola, and the cleanup challenges facing Florida’s Panhandle. Global Weather covers natural disasters and extreme weather events as they develop, using sourced reporting and avoiding unsupported speculation.
