Description
Can a $40 trash can wood stove replace a $1,000 gas generator? This DIY thermoelectric generator (TEG) uses firewood and the Seebeck effect to make off-grid cabin power with no gasoline, no engine, and no moving parts. I compare it with a Honda EU2200i. The generator wins on raw watts, but the thermoelectric stove has no fuel bills, no oil changes, no noise, and no exhaust in the yard. A ten-module array makes roughly 10 to 20 watts while the fire burns well, or about 50 to 100 watt-hours over an evening. That's enough for LED lights, phone charging, a radio, and a small fan. You'll also learn why 5–8% efficiency is actually a feature in a cabin, and why this setup pairs so well with solar.
