Description
Ever installed an ad blocker, felt like a genius, and then two days later got hit with a giant gray box that says "We noticed you're using an ad blocker"? You sat there blinking, wondering how it could possibly know. Here's the thing: it can't actually see your ad blocker at all — so it has to catch you a much sneakier way.
In this episode we build a pretend restaurant with free food, hire an invisible bouncer, and watch the restaurant figure out he's there without ever laying eyes on him. You'll learn the five tricks websites use to detect ad blockers — the blank guest book, the cardboard decoy, the tape measure, the dead phone line, and the deal happening where you can't see it — plus why the site does it, why it's not really the villain, and how this turned into the nerdiest arms race on the internet. By the end you'll understand exactly what's happening in the two seconds between loading a page and getting caught.
