Description

How did humans discover uranium? It started with a strange black rock that miners thought was useless. In 1789, German chemist Martin Heinrich Klaproth studied this mysterious mineral and discovered a new element. He named it uranium after the recently discovered planet Uranus. But that was only the beginning. For decades, uranium was mostly used to make yellow and green glass. Nobody knew that the same element was naturally radioactive. Then, in 1896, Henri Becquerel made a strange discovery involving uranium, a photographic plate, and a dark drawer. That discovery helped open the door to radioactivity. From there, the story gets even crazier. This video follows the discovery of uranium, the mystery of radioactivity, Marie Curie's research, nuclear fission, and how one ordinary-looking element became one of the most important materials in modern history. #uranium #nuclearhistory #sciencehistory #radioactivity #nuclearphysics
