Description

He Jumped From a Tower With a Homemade Parachute What would you do if you had to jump from a tower with only a homemade parachute between you and the ground? The history of the parachute is filled with dangerous experiments, incredible inventions, and people willing to risk their lives to prove that humans could safely fall from the sky. In 1783, French inventor Louis-Sébastien Lenormand experimented with early parachute designs in Montpellier, France. His work became an important chapter in the development of parachuting. But the story didn't stop there. On October 22, 1797, French balloonist André-Jacques Garnerin made a historic parachute descent from a balloon above Paris. Suspended beneath a large parachute in a basket, Garnerin dropped from thousands of feet and survived. His parachute suffered from violent oscillations during the descent, revealing another engineering problem that future parachute designs would need to solve. Then came Jeanne Geneviève Labrosse. Fascinated by ballooning and parachuting, Labrosse became part of this new era of aerial experimentation. On October 12, 1799, she made a parachute descent from approximately 900 meters, becoming the first woman to make a parachute jump. What began as dangerous experiments with simple materials eventually developed into technology capable of bringing humans safely back from the sky. In this video, we explore: • The early history of parachutes • Louis-Sébastien Lenormand • Parachute experiments in 1783 • André-Jacques Garnerin • The historic 1797 balloon parachute descent • How early parachutes worked • Why Garnerin's parachute oscillated • Jeanne Geneviève Labrosse • The first woman parachutist • How parachuting evolved • The origins of modern skydiving Long before modern skydiving, these pioneers were risking their lives to answer one question: Could a human fall from the sky and survive? This is the incredible story of the early parachute. #Parachute #History #AviationHistory #Skydiving #ParachuteHistory #Engineering #Inventions #HistoryDocumentary #FlightHistory #TechnologyHistory
